Denim, Lobster -

01/08/2019 Walt Whitman makes me feel melodramatic. A good space for creativity. Yuppies call jeans, “denim.” When we speak about cultural appropriation we limit our thinking to the horizontal plane instead of the vertical one. We often discuss cultural appropriation as a people of color versus white issue. While this does indeed happen, we miss the larger picture.  Cultural appropriation is a behavior of colonialism. Colonialists move into a culture and exploit resources for a quick buck. Resources might include intellectual property, natural resources, and human bodies.  For example, the upper-crust has a history of exploiting lower class foods. Proteins are especially valuable. The amount of protein a fetus receives while growing correlates with intelligence and...

01/26/2019 Sex talk sex freaks. The true nature of our sexuality isn't discussed in the public discourse.  My assumption is our puritanical roots and being uncomfortable in our own skin. There is a gap between who we are and what we desire. However, things have been slowly loosening up on a cosmic level.Remember when 50 Shades mania breezed through the thighs of women, and everyone else, here in the United States? Much of it preempted and paralleled #metoo. Demonstrating for us the broad boundaries and rituals we associate with consensual and non-consensual sex.Within those boundaries are sex workers. Sex workers consist of anyone who makes a...

All politics is local, Hillyard -

Photo: Hillyard ferris wheel Hill’s yard is the poorest neighborhood in Washington State according to Wikipedia, which is now as reliable as Encyclopedia Britannica. Do not be alarmed if the people from the neighborhood of Hillyard have sharp edges. They grew-up out of piles of rust.  The conversation occurring in Spokane is a discussion concerning the remaining piles of rust. Hillyard is poor, so it was decided to pave over most of the unsightly poverty. The remaining poverty will be annoyed by thundering automobiles instead of trains. When you move on, it is best to bury your past several feet below concrete. If you visit Hillyard, pretend you are Allen Ginsburg taking a...

At the age of 20 he was defending his family’s honor in court all by himself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DemosthenesSpeaking in a Ted Talk auditorium, Demosthenes of Athens says the following. Demo (Assertively): Hello, my name is Demosthenes, you may call me “Demo.” I was born in obscurity far away from the eye of society and public life. As you can tell by just looking at me, I am not much of a man. I am weak and frail. It has taken me my entire life to build up the courage to speak in front of you… my...

01/04/2019 Art therapy is good for maintaining positive behavioral health. An art form I enjoy is creative writing. This is a creative writing project. It doesn’t follow any conventional methods or styles. Meaning, it isn’t formatted in APA or iambic pentameter. Here are three truths learned from the psychotic break of an unknown poet. Written and delivered as stand-up comedy acts in the format of Ted Talks. Bleed with words not razorblades. Paraphrasing Hemingway’s advice to “Sit in front of the typewriter and bleed.” Hemingway is growing out of touch because we don’t use typewriters anymore. However, his advice is sound. This is me sitting...
